I didn’t know what to expect when I was hired as a camp counselor for Rockbrook. I was in for a big surprise because Rockbrook wasn’t just a camp but it was more like a home where everyone cared for each other. Life as a counselor was a big responsibility. I mean I had to take care of a cabin of 5 and 6 year olds at one point. It wasn’t always easy but it was worth it. I loved when the girls came to me for advice or just to talk. I made so many good friendships with the girls!
A normal day at Rockbrook was usually go-go-go. We had classes, activities, dress up days, and more! I was always very grateful for that one hour to relax and have some time to my own. But with the business of the days I always went to bed feeling like I had accomplished a lot of good. I was never disappointed because it’s not about having everything perfect and run smoothly it’s about the happiness of the girls and the amount of fun they have. Life at Rockbrook Camp is just another home and a place where I could be a role model for young girls. I won’t forget any of the memories I made there!
I could go on for hours about my experience as a counselor at Rockbrook. But, to keep it simple I’d explain it in three words: Fun, crazy, and unforgettable. I know I’ll never have a more rewarding job than the one I had at RBC. It was amazing to spend a summer in the beautiful woods of North Carolina and being able to be a role model for so many young women. Just imagine spending a summer playing outside, singing at the dinner table, and being able to make a difference in a young girl’s life. I wouldn’t give my summer at Rockbrook away for anything. It was an experience of a lifetime!
