A nationally recognized expert on children’s and young adult books, Kathleen Odean is a fantastic resource for all-around awesome books for younger readers. A librarian for 17 years, Odean is well-versed in children’s and young adult literature, and her knowledge of this genre has reserved her a place on many prestigious literary committees. Hey Rockbrook girls– you know that special gold medal that is sometimes printed on the cover of really great books? That’s a Caldecott medal, and Odean was actually a member of the committee that awards those standout books! Odean has also done some writing of her own, having written four books in her career. Her books act as guides for young readers, both girls and boys, and their parents. You can find a complete list of her work here, and click here for a sample list from one of her books, Great Books for Girls. We’re a big fan of Odean’s selection because they are packed with fun, exciting stories, as well as empowering messages for young female readers. Girls run the world!
Also, go ahead and bring your books to camp! Whether you’ve got summer reading for school or you’re just reading for fun, you can join the “Rockbrook Readers”, a group of campers that meets daily on the porch of the Hillside lodge to hang out and read!
